You know those cheesy scifi conventions where people dress up as Klingons to stand in line for overpriced autographs from C-list has-been actors? Well, I've never been to one despite the fact that I'm a big nerd (and despite writing a story on the subject).

But this weekend I will not only be attending a scifi convention, I'll be an exhibitor. No, really.

I will not, however, be dressing as a Klingon.

WinAmp decided to shuffle through and pick up "Journey of the Sorcerer" -- The theme song to the Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy raido show -- when I finally realized where I've been going wrong about the whole science-fiction complaint.

I gave Enterprise every concievable chance. I waited, watching it until the third season. There are some that say it improved right at the end, but even I couldn't stomach it long enough to watch those episodes. And, is it unfair to say maybe the compliments were only possible in contrast to the steaming pile that was the sum of Enterprise up to that point?

The two people most responsible for flushing Star Trek down the toilet are Rick Berman and Brannon Braga. If they had an ounce of sense...

Some time last week, a series of thoughts clicked into place all at once, and I'm having trouble putting them at the back of my mind. They're apparently triggered by 3 things: some science fiction novels written by Greg Bear, a bizarre mental disorder that I swear I've not read or heard about in years, and another slashdot article that I can't even find, but would have been at least 6 months ago.
